TALK 30.08 kl 16-17. Building The Art Institution of Tomorrow – a conversation between Fatoş Üstek and Nanna Hjortenberg
To celebrate curator and writer Fatoş Üsteks new book The Art Institution of Tomorrow, Reinventing the Model, Gammel Strand will be hosting an in-conversation between Üstek and the Director of Gammel Strand Nanna Hjortenberg, focusing on some of the key areas of necessitated transformation outlined in the book combined with the real life practice and strategic development of Gammel Strand.
The Art Institution of Tomorrow, Reinventing the Model is a unique manifesto for raising the standard of institutional practices of art organizations across the world.
Fatoş Üstek argues that there is a “world of crises” at different scales and intensities and that the current systems of art institutions have difficulty meeting this world's demands. With this new book, she also proposes a new model.
From a practical level Nanna Hjortenberg reflects on the challenges and potentials of a smaller art institution as Gammel Strand and uses the history of the institution and the future strategy as examples of navigation in a rapidly changing (art) world.
The event will explore the current institutional practices globally, bringing forward an in-depth reading of the circumstances that inform the art institutions in Denmark.
The event is free, but registration is required. The talk will be held in English.
